Accumold to Expand Production Capabilities With New Building

The project will nearly double production capacity and create 150 jobs.

Accumold broke ground this week on a $33.25 million expansion of its headquarters campus, adding a fourth building that will nearly double production capacity and create 150 new jobs.

The approximately 53,000-square-foot expansion will help the precision micro injection molding company meet increased customer demand. Construction is scheduled to begin this month, with completion expected in February 2028.

Accumold has a total workforce of 425 employees and added more than 100 employees this year.

“This expansion gives us the space, technology and capabilities to keep growing alongside our customers,” Accumold President/CEO Roger Hargens said. “It is also an investment in Ankeny and in the people whose skill and commitment make our work possible.”

The new building will be used primarily for production and will include new equipment and technology, expanded quality and tooling capabilities, and office and meeting space. The projected new positions will span production, quality, tooling, administration, and other areas.

Like the company’s 40,000-square-foot expansion completed in 2016, this project is engineered to withstand an EF-5 tornado, protecting employees and strengthening business continuity for customers. The Weitz Company of Des Moines (Iowa) is the project’s general contractor, and SVPA Architects of West Des Moines is providing architectural services.

“Our customers depend on precision, quality, and a reliable supply of components. As we expand our production capabilities, we are also strengthening our ability to protect our team and support our customers through disruptions,” Hargens added.

Accumold produces complex, high-volume micro components for customers in medical, microelectronics, optics, and emerging technology markets. All production takes place at its Ankeny, Iowa, facility, with shipments sent to more than 30 countries annually.

Accumold specializes in precision micro injection molding, with capabilities that include engineering and design for manufacturability support, precision tooling, automation, advanced inspection, and scalable, high-volume manufacturing. Based in Ankeny, the company serves customers globally.
